No one should go hungry in our community. Bienvenidos Food Bank provides emergency and supplemental food assistance and other resources for families in need.
In 1976, a group of concerned neighbors and church leaders started a food bank at the St. Patrick's Action Center to serve struggling families in northwest Denver. The program grew under the leadership of community activist Ellen Torres, who also helped establish the nonprofit Northwest Family Assistance Center. When the Action Center closed in 1998, the two organizations merged and served in a number of Northwest Denver locations. Ellen Torres continued to run the all-volunteer nonprofit until her death in 2001. However, a group of dedicated volunteers and friends came together to kept the program growing and thriving.
Bienvenidos Food Bank (now located at 3810 Pecos St.) has developed into a strong, independent, community-based nonprofit organization focused on hunger relief and food security. We continue to be an organization rooted in the Northwest Denver community but serve anyone in need.
