Denver Cat Rescue (DCR) works with overcrowded county shelters and small rural rescue organizations to find homes for at-risk cats via its affiliated cat cafe, Denver Cat Company. We are a small organization that is entirely funded by individual donations, so we rely on your help to make our work possible.
2024 was a big year for us. We finally leased a shelter space to allow us to better care for the cats in our care, especially the ones who need isolation due to contagious disease. We have also expanded our staff of one to 1.5 employees this year!
Our foster and volunteer network also continues to grow, and our hearts have been warmed by the number of people who have stepped up to socialize cats in the shelter space while they undergo ringworm treatment. This year, we also expanded our services to include providing care for neonates, and saved neonate kittens this year who had lost their mamma cat and would not have survived without our fabulous neonate foster team.
As we have improved our service provision, we have also added to our operating costs. We are hoping to raise 25K by December 10. This is an ambitious goal for us and we are really hoping you help us get there! If you intend to give to us for Colorado Gives Day, please give early so we can seek matches to hit our goal by December 10!
"I cannot express enough my admiration for Denver Cat Rescue and the incredible work they do for our feline friends. This organization embodies compassion and dedication, tirelessly rescuing hundreds of cats not only in Denver, but all the way here in Tulsa as well. The team at Denver Cat Rescue goes above and beyond, not just to save lives but to create a warm and welcoming space where every cat feels safe and valued. Denver Cat Rescue doesn't just save cats; they create lasting bonds and bring happiness to countless lives. I am endlessly grateful for their selfless efforts and the positive impact they have on their community, and ours as well." - Lawrence DePriest, Director of Operations, Humane Society of Tulsa
"We have been working with Denver Cat Rescue for over three years now. They are so wonderful. Some of the kitties they have helped us rehome were older cats who are hard to place. We love the cafe environment and have used some of the ideas we have seen there at our shelter. Partnerships like this alleviate the rescue burden in our area. This year alone they have helped us place over 40 kitties, which is an enormous help for us because there are a lot of cats here but very few adopters. We know with DCR, our cats find amazing homes." Cheryl Rogers, Treasurer, A Cat Rescue Out in the Sticks
"As a rescue group on Maui, where our adoptable cat population is overwhelming our shelters, what a joy and relief it was to hear how receptive Denver Cat Rescue was when we contacted them about flying 20 kittens to them who have all now found wonderful forever homes. We look forward to transferring more Maui kitties to them in the future!" - Shelley Dunbar, Good Cat Network, Maui.
"We have worked with Denver Cat Rescue, directly and indirectly, for several years now. They helped us by taking nearly 80 cats last year. Denver Cat Rescue will take the cats in need that other rescues will not; they are adults whereas people want kittens. Often, they have great personalities but they are black or ordinary tabbies, who tend not to be desired by the few adopters available in our area. EPAWA rescues cats from feeding stations that have been abandoned who have no prospects without the option to come to the cat cafe via Denver Cat Rescue where their personalities can shine and attract adopters. Because of Denver Cat Rescue, these unwanted cats end up in great homes vetted through a careful application process. Denver Cat Rescue also supports us by covering the cost of vetting and is a source of funding for us. We are able to save more cats because Denver Cat Rescue is doing the work it does." - Terrill Bartels, President, Eastern Plains Animal Welfare Alliance
"Denver Cat Rescue has been a very valuable resource for SW Kansas cats. Cats in our are rarely get reclaimed from the shelter and are at constant risk of euthanasia. Denver Cat Rescue has helped our small shelter with over 65 cats. FIV positive cats have found amazing homes via this organization. Our shelter is constantly over capacity and having a trustworthy organization to send them to is the live outcome we need! Many friendly and social adult cats who have been overlooked by adopters because they prefer kittens or because of an ear tip on a formerly feral cat have found a safe haven here. We are eternally grateful for the opportunity to get cats out alive to a top tier organization like Denver Cat Rescue." - Ashelei Cruz, Director of Operations/Transport Manager, Finney County Humane Society
Denver Cat Rescue works with Denver's cat cafe, Denver Cat Company, to connect cats with their forever homes. Many rural areas face overcrowding in shelters and a lack of adopters. Meanwhile, cafe kitties steal the hearts of visitors and get adopted in record time.
Our mission is to connect the dots between these two needs, with a focus on adult cats.
Denver Cat Rescue was founded in 2019 to give high-risk cats a chance to connect with a loving family in the Denver Metro area. DCR partners with shelters and rescues across rural Colorado as well as in half a dozen other states to transport and foster cats and provides them with exposure to an enriching and socializing environment through DCR's sister organization, Denver Cat Company. This cat café offers a unique adoption experience for the cats and the community where patrons are able to truly get to know their future companions in a cage-free, interactive environment. This model has resulted in a 99% placement rate and less than 5% surrenders. Moreover, due to the transparency of this model, many families who can no longer keep their loved cats will choose to place them for adoption through DCR because they are confident their cat will never be kennelled or sit for months in a cage without love or attention.
