Background Statement
Denver Children's Foundation began in 1987 (formerly named "Denver Active 20-30 Children's Foundation") when a group of friends decided to host an event to raise money for a local charity. That event was the first Denver Polo Classic. It was put on by a dozen or so members and their wives and friends. After weeks of hard work (they catered the day themselves) they were able to donate $600 each to Denver Boys Inc. and Denver Girls Inc.
Since then, the Foundation has grown to about 100 volunteer-members and expanded its fundraising activities to four signature events (Denver Polo Classic, Denver Barn Party, Leaders Fore Kids Golf Classic, and Christmas for Kids) as well as several smaller events and fundraising partnerships. These efforts net more than $1.5M annually for grants to more than 60 local charities. Through its annual fundraising and partnership that extend available funds, the Foundation is able to provide grants to charities that would not normally be considered.
