Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies places 250-300 Goldens a year in loving, forever homes. GRRR's many volunteers and generous donors make this possible. Please help us continue the important work we do for these wonderful dogs.
RUE: Rue’s smile, tail wagging, and happy bark when I come home says it all! I am so thankful to you all for giving us Rue! She is living her best life and we could not be more in love with her! Thank you so much again! Erica Goodwin
BODHI: We’ll always be grateful to GRRR for helping us find our new buddy Bodhi and for getting him the crucial surgery he needed. thanks to all who donate to the Golden Angel Fund too. We’re so happy to have Bodhi in our family! Thank you GRRR for making this possible! Buddy actually rescued us and we love him so much. Thanks, Kim and Rick Walker
BUDDY: Our entire experience with GRRR was amazing. Roberta reviewed our application, took the time to talk with me, and really matched us with the perfect dog for our family. She kept our application on file and called when she found our match. I’ve done nothing but recommend GRRR to everyone I meet! Best, Devon Phelan
BREE: Hi everyone, I’m Bree...a Golden Angel that GRRR took in. I had torn ACLs in both my back legs and needed two surgeries, one after another. My foster dad took such great care of me, keeping me quiet and letting me heal, while also doing all the exercises needed so that I had the absolute best recovery I could get. I recently went home with my forever family. They tell me every day just how lucky they are to have me with them. My next step is physical therapy on a water treadmill. Then I can go for longer walks and hikes and really take in the sights and smells. I’m so glad I found GRRR as a Golden Angel, and through them my forever family. I am well on my way to being an active 3-year-old girl and loving life to the fullest.
PENNY: Miss Penny Lane came to me at the exact time when I needed her the most. She came from horrific years at a puppy mill. So, of course...I am so happy with all that I am giving her. She is giving even more than she is receiving! Thanks to GRRR, Mary, and the vets who have helped Penny battle her heartworm disease. And thank you to all who donate to the Golden Angel fund. I cannot thank GRRR enough for letting me adopt Penny. She is getting more and more open to new adventures...and less and less anxious. I am in love with this girl. Thank you everyone at GRRR for rescuing Penny... and hundreds of the other sweet pups that you bring to Colorado!
LILLY: Matt and I always speak about how impressed we were with the facility, staff, and treatment of the pups. We recommend GRRR to everyone! We thank you for your commitment to finding loving homes for these pups and for helping to bring Miss Lilly into our lives. Wishing you a healthy and treat-filled year, Matt Hoch, Victoria Massey, and Lilly
Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies is dedicated to the rescue, placement and public awareness to ensure that Golden Retrievers are adopted by people able to provide safe, loving homes.
Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies (GRRR) was founded in 1996 as a Colorado 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. It is now one of the largest rescue groups in Colorado. GRRR cares for an average of 250-300 dogs annually, with a network of committed volunteers, members and generous donors who assist with medical care, training, fostering and hospice care. Since inception, GRRR has placed over 6000 Golden Retrievers in forever homes, and the need for its services grows every year.
For many years GRRR dreamed of having a facility to help dogs coming in from loving homes where the owners unfortunately could not keep them, as well as for those arriving as abandoned dogs or from shelters. Many need training for behavioral issues or rehab following surgery or injuries. The goal was to have a home for dogs in transition needing new forever homes, as well as for those who lived tied up outside, in puppy mills, or in other inhumane situations. The home would be a place where all dogs could learn to feel secure and loved; where they could learn to play and be prepared to join their new forever home.
And it happened in 2011 when GRRR was able to purchase and renovate five acres of land in Northwest Arvada, thanks to a generous lead donation from Mitchell Graye and Pam Hollister in honor of their first GRRR dog, Phoebe, along with many other donations and the hard work of numerous volunteers. Establishing Phoebe's Place as GRRR's permanent home was a very important step toward assuring GRRR's long-term sustainability.
Following much work, Phoebe's Place has day kennels for intake, isolation and rehab, under the care of a live-in caregiver. There is also an adoption center, caregiver home, a grooming center and feeding station, and outdoor play areas, which add to the efficiency of caring for these dogs in one location. We have a donated bridge crossing the canal to our fenced 2-acre back portion of the property for dog walkers, visitors and events.
The move to Phoebe's Place reduced overall costs of kenneling, and provided a place to help socialize and prepare dogs for foster care or adoption, as well as aiding those who need extra physical or behavioral help in their healing process. It also helps control costs and their predictability, which is part of the goal of assuring GRRR's future ability to serve its constituents by controlling its own destiny.
In 2022, Mitchell and Pam once again asked how they could help continue our success. Together we decided that renovating the Caregiver home and adding an addition to it would be incredibly helpful as we continue our mission of aiding these wonderful dogs on their way to their forever homes. Watch for this exciting project to progress in the months ahead!
