You can help ensure BVSD students have the resources they need, when they need them.
Impact on Education was founded 40 years ago to protect Boulder Valley School District from the uncertainties of local and state funding. Here we are – 40 years later – and public schools are still underfunded with Colorado spending $3,000 below the national average per student.
Here in Boulder County, there is also a huge disparity in wealth that impacts our students and their families every day. Last year, 1 in 4 BVSD students qualified for Free and Reduced Price Meals, which equates to a family of four living on less than $55,000 per year – which is less than half of what’s needed to make ends meet in Boulder County.
What We Do
BVSD has one of the widest and most persistent opportunity gaps in the state, which means student academic success is highly impacted by uncontrollable factors like race and economic and family situations. To address this we prioritize our programs and investments to support low-income and historically marginalized students.
Mental Health We are committed to the mental health of BVSD students. In partnership with the District we’ve created a long-term approach to providing mental health supports during the school day.
Academic Opportunity We award grants to schools and educators and fund supplemental instruction and pilot programs across the district.
College and Career Readiness We award college scholarships and provide high school students with training and resources to help them make informed decisions about their futures.
Early Childhood Education We prepare children for kindergarten through a summer learning program for low-income students and by championing early learning experiences.
Learning Tools We provide essential school supplies and other resources to help ensure every student has the opportunity to participate in learning.
Crisis Response In times of crisis or emergency we are agile and strategic in our response, finding where we can best support the needs of the Boulder Valley community.
Testimonials
"Impact on Education is there for us in our moments of greatest need." Dr. Rob Anderson, Superintendent, BVSD
"Impact on Education and BVSD have different roles, but our goals for students are the same. Where our ability to support students stops, their ability starts." Robbyn Fernandez, Assistant Superintendent, BVSD
"When someone makes a donation to Impact on Education, it's not just about the money. That money is also a symbolic gesture. It's communicating something, and it's communicating that you care." Sam Messier, Assistant Superintendent, BVSD
Mission
Impact on Education supports Boulder Valley public school students with community funding and resources in order to meet critical needs and eliminate opportunity gaps.
Background Statement
Impact on Education is a nonprofit foundation supporting nearly 28,000 students and 4,000 educators across 56 public schools in Boulder Valley School District. BVSD has one of the widest and most persistent opportunity gaps in the state, so we prioritize our programs and investments to serve low-income and historically marginalized students.
This year, we're investing over $2.8 million to engage students and empower educators to make sure students have access to the resources they need, when they need them.
