Background Statement
Loveland Opera Theatre (LOT) was founded in 2004 by Dr. Juliana Bishop Hoch, for the purpose of “bringing opera to the hearts and minds of all”. LOT is a 501c3 not-for-profit opera company based in Loveland, Colorado. Dr. Hoch founded LOT to give opportunities to many talented “emerging young artists” and “community” singers in Colorado needing a venue in which to perform. LOT has provided a nurturing environment in which these local talents could learn and grow and bring the performing arts to the community of Northern Colorado.
LOT has produced numerous fully-staged operas and musicals as well as fund-raising Galas and concerts since its' beginnings. We focus on providing entertainment that is accessible and fun for our audiences. Our main stage performances are mainly in English and are centered around fun or uplifting themes. Whether you are a first-time audience member, or an opera "buff", you will find something to smile about at a LOT performance.
Education of children is near and dear to the heart of Loveland Opera Theatre. "Opera for Kids" programs present shortened versions of our main stage productions which are an ideal introduction to opera for families with young children. LOT also launched the Dahlen Educational Outreach program in 2021 which provides short in-school touring opera performances and in-person performances at the Rialto Theater for Thompson School District in Northern Colorado. We continue to partner with the Thompson and Poudre school districts to present special opera programs for elementary through high school students.
Over the past nineteen years, LOT has produced numerous operatic productions such as The Gondoliers by Gilbert and Sullivan, The Magic Flute by Mozart, The Elixir of Love by Donizetti, Hansel and Gretel by Humperdinck, HMS Pinafore by Gilbert and Sullivan, La Boheme by Puccini, The Mikado by Gilbert and Sullivan, Kismet by Robert Wright and George Forrest, Pirates of Penzance by Gilbert and Sullivan, The Merry Wives of Windsor by Otto Nicolai, The Merry Widow by Lehar, Cosi Fan Tutte by Mozart, Cendrillon by Pauline Viardot, Brigadoon by Lerner & Loewe and The Ballad of Baby Doe by Douglas Moore and John Latouche. Other performances have included: "Love Makes the World Go Round" Gala (2006), "It's a Grand Night For Singing" Gala (2007), "S'Wonderful" Gala - Cole Porter and George Gershwin - (2008), "Mystery on the High 'Cs'" Gala (2009), "5 STAR Gala" (2010), "Everybody Loves PUCCINI" (2011), "Give Our Regards to Broadway" Gala (2012), "Viva Verdi" Gala (2013), "From London to Broadway with Love" (2014), and "Opera Jukebox LIVE" (2015-17) and numerous virtual events during 2020-2021.
