Opera Steamboat was founded in 2002 to bring world-class operatic artists to Steamboat Springs. It was, and currently is, the only opera company serving the rural communities of Northwest Colorado. We are currently opening up our programmatic activities to a year round format and are seeking to partner with many local organizations to produce a variety of opera and vocal theater works.
Goals/Strategies:
• Change business model from a summer festival to year-round programming ultimately finding a “seasonal” model of 3-5 presentations (two-year plan)
• Grow education programs by adding Youth Opera Program (Starting THIS SPRING))
• Focus on growing audience and community connections through engagement programming for ALL programmatic activity (ongoing)
• Create out-of-the-box programming that “isn’t your grandma's opera” (ongoing)
• Focus on creating/presenting new works that connect to the local community in unique ways telling contemporary stories focused on current issues (launch new works competition by spring of 2026)
• Grow budget to $500,000 in three years and a million in 7 years
• Grassroots marketing efforts by creating engagement events, in the community with a variety of partners, surrounding all of our programmatic activity
