Parker’s Animal Rescue (PAR) is a dedicated nonprofit organization based in Durango, Colorado, committed to saving and improving the lives of at-risk animals in our community and beyond. With a strong network of foster homes and volunteers, PAR provides temporary, loving care for homeless pets while working tirelessly to find them permanent homes. Since its inception, PAR has remained steadfast in its mission to rescue animals from neglect, abandonment, and overcrowded shelters, ensuring every animal receives the second chance they deserve.
At the heart of PAR is a foster-based rescue model that prioritizes individualized care and rehabilitation for each animal. By housing pets in foster homes rather than traditional shelters, PAR creates an environment where animals can heal, learn, and thrive. This model also allows us to better understand each pet’s personality and needs, enabling us to match them with the ideal adopter. In addition to adoption services, PAR actively educates the community on responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spaying and neutering, vaccinations, and providing enriching, loving care for all companion animals.
PAR’s impact is made possible by the unwavering support of its fosters, donors, and volunteers, as well as partnerships with like-minded organizations and local businesses.
Recent efforts in 2024 include the expansion of foster programs through grants like the LPEA Round Up Foundation, and the welcoming of new leaders to enhance the organization's vision. From saving animals like Joon Bug, who overcame a difficult past to become a loving companion, to uniting many deserving pets with their forever families, PAR’s stories of transformation and hope inspire our community to continue making a difference, one life at a time.
