RCHS manages a county-wide animal shelter in Steamboat Springs. We care for the animals entrusted to us and provide compassionate safe haven. Funding goes toward healing their minds, bodies and hearts as we find them new homes. Help our life-saving work for the animals, and the people who love them!
Routt County Humane Society strives to promote the human – animal bond in a community that supports a humane, sustainable and compassionate environment for all animals.
Routt County Humane Society is a community resource that helps animals in need through sheltering, adoption, education, veterinary services and community outreach.
Since we were founded in 1985, The Routt County Humane Society has been a safe haven to thousands of homeless, surrendered, neglected and abused companion animals in Steamboat Springs, Routt County and northwest Colorado.
Over the next 30 years, RCHS worked closely with the City of Steamboat Springs, providing financial support for spay/neuter and medical care of the shelter animals, which were services that the City did not provide. In 2015, RCHS took over management of the Steamboat Springs Animal Shelter and has been dramatically expanding animal and community programs to meet growing needs.
In 2019, with the support of our community we opened the Routt County Humane Society Wellness Clinic dedicated to helping community-owed pets and their owners secure affordable veterinary care. The Routt County Humane Society Wellness Center serves low-income patrons throughout Northwest Colorado who couldn't otherwise provide their pet with a lifetime or good healthcare.
