Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence (SPAN) supports survivors of domestic violence and their families across Boulder and Broomfield Counties, helping them find safety, stability, and a path forward. Since 1979, SPAN has provided comprehensive services, including emergency shelter, crisis support, counseling, legal advocacy, and long-term housing assistance. Through our No Pet Left Behind program, we help survivors find safety without having to leave their beloved pets behind, because pets are family, too. Beyond crisis response, SPAN works to prevent violence through education, advocacy, and community partnerships, building a future rooted in safety, justice, dignity, and nonviolence.

Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence (SPAN) is a human rights organization committed to ending violence against adults, youth and children through support, advocacy, education and community organizing.
Established in 1979, Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence (SPAN) has spent more than 45 years working toward a community where domestic violence no longer defines the lives of individuals and families. Serving Boulder and Broomfield Counties, SPAN combines immediate crisis response with ongoing resources that help people regain independence, rebuild their lives, and move forward on their own terms.
In 2025, SPAN answered 7,119 crisis calls, provided emergency shelter to 337 adults and children, assisted 441 survivors through Transitional Housing & Economic Justice, and connected 521 survivors with legal advocacy. Our Counseling Program also worked with 779 adults and children, offering guidance and support through difficult transitions.
SPAN recognizes that leaving an abusive relationship can mean leaving behind much more than a home. Through our No Pet Left Behind program, we help survivors access safety while keeping their beloved pets in their lives. We also invest in prevention education, community partnerships, and advocacy to address the root causes of abuse and build healthier relationships.
