Second Wind Fund

A nonprofit organization

Second Wind Fund believes that every youth at risk of suicide should have access to the mental health treatment they need. We match children and youth at risk for suicide with licensed therapists in their communities, and pay for up to 12 sessions of therapy when there is a barrier to treatment.

Mission

The mission of the Second Wind Fund is to decrease the incidence of suicide in children and youth by removing financial and social barriers to treatment.

Second Wind Fund believes that every child and youth at risk of suicide should have access to the mental health treatment they need. We match children and youth at risk for suicide with licensed therapists in their communities. If a financial or social barrier to treatment is present, we pay for up to 12 sessions of therapy from one of our specialized network providers. Our unique program helps referred youth discover hope and healing in their lives.

Background Statement

Second Wind Fund was founded in response to multiple suicides by students that attended the same high school during the 2001-2002 school year. Determined to ensure that youth at risk of suicide would always have access to high-quality, professional, and timely mental health support, a community walk was organized by a local church to raise funds and Second Wind Fund was created to provide these services.

The youth suicide rate throughout Colorado is alarmingly high. Over the last 21 years, Second Wind Fund has expanded to provide life-saving services to over 8,000 children and teens in communities throughout Colorado.
