SSS is the only organization in the Denver area that serves exclusively people age 60+ experiencing food and housing insecurity, assisting up to 200 people each day. Providing meals, clothing and help obtaining housing and government benefits, SSS is one-stop shopping for Denver's most abject older adults.
SSS makes each day better and safer for people aged 60+ who are experiencing food- and/or housing- insecurity in the Denver area. We do this by providing the resources and support they need to live more self-sufficient, fulfilling lives.
SSS began in 1976 as a collaboration between downtown churches to assist older adults being displaced by downtown redevelopment. However, it soon became clear that their model would be helpful for any and all older adults experiencing food- or housing-insecurity, so SSS has been working with this population ever since. We moved into our current building in 1995, and have become a community staple as a "one stop shop" for anyone over age 60. Our day center provides meals, clothing, hygiene items, access to mail, storage, and computers, and the opportunity to socialize with peers. Our case management team assists members with issues related to housing, government benefits, healthcare, and their social/emotional life.
Over the years, SSS has worked with over 12,000 members from all walks of life. By prioritizing member input and feedback, we have tailored our services to best fit the needs of our community.
