STAR Institute is impacting quality of life by developing and promoting best practices for sensory health and wellness through treatment, research, and education.

STAR Institute is the international leader for research, treatment, and education related to sensory integration and processing based in Centennial, CO. As a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, we are dedicated to improving mainstream awareness of sensory health and to providing life-changing support and resources for individuals and families across the lifespan. STAR Institute supports all areas of sensory health including mental health, school success, child development, parenting, relationships, and vocational success. For some, disordered sensory processing profoundly impacts daily functioning. However, many differences in sensory processing do not need to be disabling. We believe everyone should have access to high-quality support, resources, and treatment for sensory health.

Transforming Sensory Health in 2025

There is an urgent need for action, and we are reaching out to you with a heartfelt plea to support STAR Institute in our mission to address critical gaps in sensory health services and education. Through our pillars of therapy, education, research, and advocacy, STAR remains steadfast in our commitment to creating meaningful change. Your support today will help us achieve the following transformative goals in 2025:

  • Increasing Access to Adult Services: Serve 50% more teens and adults by expanding access to sensory-informed care, addressing the often-overlooked needs of this population.
  • Empowering Caregivers through Education: Provide no-cost parent education for clients with financial need, equipping caregivers with tools to support their children and advocate effectively.
  • Developing Caregiver Handbooks: Create resources that bridge knowledge gaps, strengthen relationships, and offer practical strategies for navigating sensory challenges.
  • Expanding Health Equity Through Clinician Training: Equip professionals in underserved communities across the US to deliver neurodivergent-affirming, sensory-informed care, spreading STAR's mission further.
  • Fostering Inclusive Classrooms: Train teachers to create sensory-friendly classrooms that promote learning, safety, and connection for all students, transforming educational environments into inclusive spaces.

Your generosity builds a world where sensory health is prioritized and embraced. Together, we can empower individuals, families, and communities with the resources they need to thrive. Please give today and join us in transforming lives and shaping a brighter, more inclusive future.

Mission

STAR Institute's mission to impact quality of life by developing and promoting best practices for sensory health and wellness through treatment, education, and research.

- Generating research that helps us understand sensory processing,

- Therapy services that pioneer best-practice interventions throughout the lifespan, and

- Education that shares what we know with practitioners, educators, advocates and parents.

Background Statement

Founded by Dr. Lucy J. Miller, STAR Institute for Sensory Processing was formed in 2016 from two merged organizations SPD Foundation and STAR Center. STAR Institute provides premier treatment, education, and research for children, adolescents, and adults with disordered sensory processing.

Today, both entities work as one. Now known as STAR Institute, we provide exceptional treatment programs, continue the lead in research related to sensory processing and integration, and offer an array of public and professional services including the most comprehensive education opportunities online and in person, and an extremely informative website.
