Every child deserves safety, love, and the opportunity to thrive—but for Colorado’s most neglected, abused, and traumatized children, this is far from reality. At Tennyson Center for Children, we’ve been a beacon of hope since 1904, providing life-changing care through our Therapeutic K-12 School, Day Treatment Program, and statewide community programs that strengthen families. From therapy to vital skill-building, we support children aged 5 to 21 and their families, ensuring they have the tools and support to heal and succeed. Your donation makes this transformation possible, giving children the chance at the futures they deserve. Together, we can change lives—one family at a time.

Mission
Tennyson Center works to improve the mental health and wellness of those impacted by trauma and other adverse experiences.
For more than a century, Tennyson Center for Children has provided safe, experienced, nurturing care, and treatment for the most neglected, abused, and traumatized children in Colorado.
What began in 1904 as an orphanage for kids in need of safety and stability has grown into a statewide leader in child and family mental health, helping children heal, rebuild trust, and rediscover hope.
Today, Tennyson offers an accredited Therapeutic K–12 School and Day Treatment Program with a 4:1 student-to-staff ratio, a Residential Program for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and co-occurring mental health diagnoses, and Community-Based and Family Support Services that reach families across the state. We work directly with nearly 1,500 family members each year.
Background Statement
Tennyson opened its doors in 1904 as an orphanage for Colorado's most vulnerable kids. Since then, we've evolved to meet the rising mental health needs of kids and families in our state. Our goal is to strengthen and support kids and families so children won’t enter the foster care system in the first place. For kids already in the system, we want to keep their adoptive families strong so kids won’t be moved from foster home to foster home.
Our team of therapists, teachers, early childhood experts, and volunteers help kids and families find their unique paths to healing, sometimes working 2-10 hours a week with one family to build the skills and supports they need to heal. We often hear from families that Tennyson offers a level of compassion and expertise they could not find anywhere else.
These efforts are improving kids' lives, which ensures a healthier future for our state. We hope you will join us by standing up for the most vulnerable members of our community!
