Mission
Together with the Children (TWC) partners with the JUCONI foundation in Mexico to:
1. Raise awareness of why we must invest in children and families affected by the stress and trauma caused by poverty and family violence; and
2. Support the development, application, and sharing of practices and standards which will improve the quality of care provided.
Background Statement
In February 2007, Together with the Children (TWC) was founded in Denver, Colorado to be a sister organization for JUCONI in Puebla, Mexico. TWC, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, spreads awareness about our work in Mexico and offers opportunities for people in the United States to get involved helping street-involved children.
Junto Con los Ninos, or JUCONI, was founded in 1989, in Puebla, one of the poorer states of Mexico. It grew out of an Anglo-Mexican initiative of the British non-governmental organization International Children's Trust, directed in Mexico by Sarah Thomas, and two local Mexican organizations, Fundacion Fuad Abed Halabi and IPODERAC. The launch of this innovative inter-institutional project was led by the Puebla educationalist, Gabriel Benitez.
JUCONI is registered in Mexico as a nonprofit, non-political and non-religious organization. We are a dynamic organization, continually seeking to improve the quality of our services. The JUCONI Program provides integrated and personalized services to 350 children and 150 parents each year. In fall 2008, JUCONI was awarded "Best Practices" by UNICEF. UNICEF cited JUCONI's family work, specifically its adherence to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and its ability to replicate their model as the reasons they won the award.
