Background Statement
Volunteers of America Colorado is a nonprofit, faith-based organization. For 127 years, VOA Colorado has been serving Coloradans in need. Soup, work, and a safe place to sleep along with counseling for the homeless, the poor and prisoners sum up the agency's initial services. As social needs expanded, so did the agency's work to also serve older adults, children, families, and veterans.
Today, as one of Colorado's largest human service agencies, VOA Colorado transforms lives. Four simple phrases - We feed, We shelter, We support, We care - help guide our work across Colorado's 64 counties. Our agency believes a community’s unique challenges require thoughtful solutions garnered from local voices and those with lived experience. It then brings its resources and the support of 16,000+ volunteers to provide tailored services in pursuit of lasting change.
In 2022, VOA Colorado's 60+ distinct programs empowered more than 100,000 individuals to transform their lives. Our agency recognizes the unique needs of the older adult who needs a hot lunch delivered on weekdays or a wheelchair ramp to stay at home safely, and the preschooler whose family needs additional resources due to the harsh impacts of poverty and community violence. VOA Colorado helps veterans exit homelessness and provides a safe place for women and children escaping domestic violence. As one of the largest affordable housing providers in the state, VOA Colorado combines high-quality housing with enriched services helping older adults, families, youth, veterans and those living with disability attain and/or retain the services and supports needed to thrive and age in place.
Wherever VOA Colorado goes, our agency combines relationship-building, volunteers, and quality services to lift and support our neighbor’s efforts to become self-sufficient and reach their full potential.
Of Note: VOA Colorado is an affiliate of Volunteers of America, Inc. It is independently governed by a local board of directors as a separately incorporated Colorado non-profit. VOA Colorado does not discriminate.
