$1,000,000 Goal

At Roots Family Center, we work tirelessly to provide numerous families with the support they need during crucial moments in life, such as pregnancy, postpartum and early childhood education. But we need your help to continue growing and offering our services to more families.

Your donation will make history by creating the first and only nonprofit birthing center with services primarily in Spanish—a safe, home-like environment where birthing people can give birth with confidence, surrounded by culturally responsive care. This space will offer a sanctuary for families, providing essential resources to support their children’s education and development.

Every dollar you contribute is vital in expanding our impact and ensuring we can continue offering these life-changing services to the community. With your support, we can equip Latine families with the tools they need to thrive and empower the next generation of confident, compassionate, and healthy children.

Thank you for being part of our mission and for helping us grow the next generation of confident, compassionate, and healthy children.

Meet Paola's Story

When Paola arrived in the United States with her husband and their 10-year-old son, she discovered she was pregnant. Her first child was born in her home country, surrounded by the love and support of her mom and family. But this second pregnancy was different: she had no support network, didn’t speak the language, and faced an uncertain future.

"I’m new to this country, I have no money, I don’t speak the language, I don’t know how the healthcare system works, I have no family nearby… what if something happens to me during childbirth?"

These worries flooded her mind, filling her pregnancy with anxiety and fear.

Then she found Roots Family Center. Today, holding her three-month-old baby in her arms, Paola remembers her childbirth experience as a moment of love and peace, thanks to her doula. Her doula not only accompanied her but also served as her interpreter. In her words:

"She was my angel, like a mom in such a vulnerable moment."

Like Paola, hundreds of Latine immigrant women face profound fears during pregnancy. But you can help them experience this crucial stage of life with confidence and support.

How Can You Help?

The building we need costs $2 million. Thanks to The Colorado Health Foundation, we’ve already secured $1 million, but we need your help to raise the remaining $1 million.

Every dollar counts to transform lives and build a unique space for our community. Donate today and be part of this historic achievement.

Can you imagine being part of this change? With your contribution, Latine families will gain access to a safe and dignified place to bring their children into the world. More families will also have the tools to support their children’s development during the most crucial learning stage: the first five years of life.

Mission

To grow the next generation of confident, compassionate and healthy children who are rooted in the culture and strengths of their families and communities.

Background Statement

Roots Family Center was founded in 2016 to address a significant gap in services for Spanish-speaking families in Southwest Denver, particularly in the Westwood, Barnum, and Barnum West neighborhoods. These communities were identified as critically underserved, especially when it comes to supporting young children from Spanish-speaking households in their early education.

Over 35% of Spanish-speaking children in Southwest Denver are not ready to read by the end of first grade, and many lack access to early childhood programs. In response to this urgent need, Roots Family Center launched programs such as Parents as Teachers (PAT) and Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY). These initiatives provide home visits and resources to help parents support their children's development from birth through age five.

We soon realized that families needed support long before their children began education. That’s why we created Colorado’s first nonprofit doula program in Spanish, providing crucial support to families during pregnancy. This has allowed us to assist with 50 births annually, offering birthing people the comfort of having a supportive, bilingual doula by their side.

Since opening, Roots Family Center has conducted over 1,500 home visits. Our services are in high demand, with all of our programs—Community Doulas, PAT, and HIPPY—currently having extensive waitlists. The need is clear, and we’re determined to expand our reach to support even more families in the coming years.
