The story of Annie and Alonzo Hartman, the original owners, designers, and builders of the historic Hartman Castle, is so much more than meets the eye. The two played pivotal roles in Gunnisonโ€™s earliest years, with Alonzo being one of the townโ€™s founders and Annie helping lead the local Monday Afternoon Club, among other community roles.

Their love story is one for the ages, and also one that all of us who love the Gunnison Valley can relate to. The same love they poured into their marriage and family, they poured into Gunnison, helping it thrive and grow into the wonderful quaint mountain town we know it as today. That same love was also the foundation for their beloved family home, the Hartman Castle.

As we continue raising funds to cover our non-profitโ€™s purchase of the castle, with an ultimate goal of restoration and preservation for the community and visitors alike, we want to officially dedicate space to celebrating Annie and Alonzoโ€™s love story. They initially wed on January 28th of 1982 in Kansas. To follow-up the wedding, they held a reception in Gunnison on February 24th of that same year.

In celebration of the love that brought them together and brought all of us the stunning Hartman Castle, we are running a month-long campaign to keep the heart in Hartman Castle! Read Annie and Alonzo's full love story here. Read Annie and Alonzo's full love story here.

Help us Keep the Heart in Hartman Castle!

As we celebrate Annie and Alonzo's wedding anniversary on January 28th, followed by Valentine's Day and the anniversary of their Gunnison reception on February 24th, we invite you to celebrate with us!

Our goal is to collect 500 donations to Gunnison's beloved Hartman Castle through this campaign! By giving $5 or more, you'll have a chance to be a part of preserving an important piece of Gunnison's history and saving a place for all these stories to continue to be a part of our stories.

Donations to this campaign will go directly toward purchasing the castle property. Once the property is purchased, we will move onto the next phase of restoration, followed by preservation.

Join our grassroots movement to save Hartman Castle and turn it into the beautiful, community space it deserves to be!

How it works

  1. Donate $5 or more to this Hartman Castle Prservation Corp. campaign between January 28th and February 24th.

Stories can be submitted on social media or at info@hartmancastle.org or use the comment section below.
  3. See your donation appear on our virtual Valentine's Day Board to be displayed on HartmanCastle.org. We will also create a physical board for our events and to be displayed at the Castle. Anonymous or tribute donation are also welcome. Please select one of the following categories:
