We are a small, multicultural, faith-based learning community with a 125-year legacy in the Cole neighborhood of Denver. At Annunciation, children from Early Childhood Education through 8th grade are inspired, challenged, and supported to develop as curious learners, expand their understanding of the world, uncover their unique gifts, build strong character, and become good people who realize their potential.
Last year, 89 students at Annunciation participated in sports, competing against other schools in the diocese. Students in grades 2-8 have the opportunity to participate in multiple sports throughout the year and grow in their skills by practicing at Annunciation. Being a student comes first, but athletics are encouraged to help teach them about team effort, competition, and sportsmanship.
Reasons to support our athletic program and sports:
A pressing issue we face is the condition of our gym floor. It is significantly worn and needs to be replaced to ensure the safety of our athletes. The gym is used to host sporting events throughout the Catholic School League. It is becoming a growing safety concern for our students and all athletes in the Catholic School league because of how often athletes are liable to slip and fall.
The bleachers in the gym are in rough condition. Some of the sections are stuck so we can not move them in and out. We are not able to use all of the sections due to this issue. There are sections that are not sturdy so we are unable to use them due to safety concerns.
Outside of our gym is a pickle ball and basketball court that is outdoors. This is a recess space for the middle school students so they can go outside during the day. This space needs a little update as it is cracked and the court outlines have faded.
Another outdoor space that needs to be updated is our playground for the grade school. We had to remove one play structure due to safety concerns and so now we have a smaller structure that has limited climbing and playing opportunities. Our hope is to create a healthy outdoor learning space for our students.
Every year, we continuously need to update equipment such as basketballs, volleyballs, nets, and uniforms. These tend to experience wear and tear throughout the season.
