FSN, which Trailhead Institute fiscally sponsors, is a coalition spanning Boulder and Broomfield counties, uniting grassroots and grasstop stakeholders with a mission to achieve sustainable systemic changes, thereby enhancing equitable food access.
The coalition has a track record of success in changing food policy and systems to create a better local food system. One of our most significant accomplishments was helping nine small retail store owners in underserved areas get grants of $50,000 each to purchase coolers and equipment needed to stock fresh food. This has made it possible for them to offer healthy, locally grown foods in their stores, helping more people in these communities access nutritious options close to home. We’ve also created a policy change model that is so successful it has been adopted by other coalitions. Recently, we developed the food access calendar that helps food-insecure community members quickly find where and when they can get food within their community. Through these partnerships, the coalition is creating a more resilient local food system that benefits food producers, local economies, and EVERY community member.
Donations will support the changes that are needed to make our food system better for ALL. This will include providing stipends to community members with lived experience in using food resources to actively participate in the work, as well as other barrier-reduction efforts such as interpretation, childcare, capacity building, and transportation.
Testimonials:
"The difference between the FSN and any other group I have been asked to be a part of is that it truly is centered and led by the community. And I have to tell you, it feels absolutely amazing to know I carry the same amount of power as the large organization across the table that has dominated and controlled the space for decades."

I consider the relationship we have with the FSN to be very necessary. They have not only been a financial support but also an invaluable source of resources and knowledge that has allowed us to continuously improve. Without their great support, it would be very difficult to continue with our passions and ideas. Feeling this kind of support not only strengthens our work but also deeply inspires and motivates us.
