Support Early Literacy + Connected Families in CO!

When my twins were born, I was completely overwhelmed. I had no idea what to do with these two little newborns! So I read to them. I read the books people had given us, and when I'd read those a few thousand times, I bought new books. When the boys were old enough to hold the books, we read together.

I had no idea that reading to children had such a significant impact on brain development, or that there is science behind reading to newborns. I have always loved to read, so it was my preferred way of spending time with them.

Now, reading is a family activity. We go to the library together, we talk about new books, and reading is part of their daily routine. 

I would love every family to have this experience, and that's why I'm a proud board member of Reach Out and Read Colorado. Our organization is helping families across Colorado create their own home libraries and build a foundation of reading together.

Your donation will help support Reach Out and Read Colorado as we partner with pediatricians throughout the state to 'prescribe' high quality books and provide guidance for parents/caregivers at nearly 330,000 well-child visits this year. 

Reach Out and Read Colorado’s program not only provides underserved families with books to build home libraries, but it also promotes learning and skill building for both parents and children. The simple act of unplugging and reading a book together is proven to increase brain and language development, create strong parent-child connections, and improve kindergarten readiness— And when a child is set up for success from an early age, the possibilities and opportunities are endless!
