Who owns the news? You can, by helping Boulder Weekly become employee- and community-owned!
Boulder Weekly — an independent and free newspaper serving Boulder County for 30 years — is looking to transition its ownership. We want you, the reader, to have a seat at the table.
By contributing to this fundraiser, you'll help us explore the financial and organizational requirements for transitioning from private ownership to employee and community ownership.
What does this mean for you? That's to be determined, but ultimately, we'd like community members to have a seat at the table for business decisions: Share in our profits and decide where to reinvest any dividends, alongside Boulder Weekly staff.
BW has enlisted the help of the Rocky Mountain Employee Ownership Center to help navigate through this transition. With their guidance, we hope to create a co-op that is governed by employees and community members to ensure the long-term success and local ownership of Boulder County's only free, independent, printed paper.
This fundraiser does not guarantee that BW will become employee or community owned. It simply funds the first step.
Will you join us on this journey to making news truly local?
*The nonprofit Alternative Newsweekly Foundation, of which Boulder Weekly is a member is the fiscal sponsor for this campaign.
