Assuring Better Child Health & Development

ABCD is a statewide nonprofit focused on improving the lives of Colorado children and families by working with local organizations that support children ages birth to five. We consult with early childhood professionals and primary care providers to enhance their support for young children and families. Working together, we make it easier for families to access developmental services and resources.

Our Three Key Pillars:

Consult: We partner with and support pediatric primary care providers, early childhood professionals, and local organizations that work with children birth to five. We work to understand their existing barriers, and create customized solutions to help children and families access needed developmental services and resources.

Educate: We share best practices in identifying concerns in early childhood, supporting development, and building community partnerships. We teach the lifelong benefits of ongoing monitoring, universal screening, and timely access to intervention.

Advocate: We collaborate with local organizations, state government, and national agencies to ensure that child and family health and wellbeing are prioritized in the programming and budgeting for Colorado's young children.

We know a child's entire life course can be changed for the better through early identification of developmental needs. Yet less than half of Colorado children receive developmental screenings, which means some miss out on needed supports and risk falling behind from the start. By opening more pathways for early identification and intervention, we create a stronger Colorado with thriving children, families and communities.

For every dollar invested in early identification and intervention, communities see a $4 to $9 reduction in long-term societal costs. Even better, children start to succeed in school, build skills and maximize their developmental potential. Their contributions strengthen communities, improve local economies and create a healthier, more prosperous state for us all. When children thrive, communities thrive!

We envision a different Colorado, where all children with social, emotional and developmental needs are identified by age 5 to ensure they get help when it matters most.
