Learn your Rights in Colorado (LYRIC) is a 501(C)(3) organization founded in 2009 by Colorado State Public Defenders Hannah Seigel Proff and Michael Juba, who were frustrated that so many of their young clients didn't understand their constitutional rights during interactions with the police. LYRIC was born from this need to educate young people before they have any contact with the juvenile or criminal justice systems. LYRIC’s mission is to educate youth about their Constitutional Rights and empower them to exercise their 4th, 5th, and 6th Amendment Rights when faced with police encounters. LYRIC is primarily supported by Attorneys, Volunteers, and even Judges who are trained in Constitutional Law with a passion for ending the school-to-prison pipeline in our community and nationwide. LYRIC has grown from a few volunteer lawyers to an established non-profit organization teaching several hundred Colorado students in dozens of schools annually.
