Communities who can harness their own knowledge and skill around food and medicine are more resilient. Two things are true at once: (1) members of our community possess specialized knowledge that is deserving of recognition, celebration, and wider transfer and (2) BIPOC knowledges have been denied, disrupted, and interrupted for generations, which means that we must continue to place community-centered education at the center of our mission. Additionally, Black Indigenous and People of Color are dramatically under-represented in leadership and decision-making positions within the agriculture sector. While the reasons for this are many, the situation is sometimes exacerbated by lack of access to learning spaces or culturally relevant and inviting educational opportunities. In response to this reality, FrontLine Farming offers varying levels of farming education, such as an Herbalism Certificate, on-farm work programs and courses for adults, and garden-based youth education. All these programs are aimed at communities of color to bolster the talent pool not only for the here and now, but for our future food system. Help us spread farm and food knowledge to those who seek greater connection with the land and their food.
