Cody and Shelby Allen's selfless love and caring spirit left an indelible and lasting mark on anyone who had the honor of knowing them. They loved their community, their family, and their friends.
Shelby graduated from the University of Colorado with a Bachelor's Degree in Integrated Physiology with a minor in Business. She loved to play and coach volleyball, hike, horseback ride, hunt, work on her truck and learn to operate heavy equipment. One of her other passions was physical fitness. She jumped at the chance to try anything new and was always first in line; from being the only woman to participant in an axe competition, to being first on scene, to winning the game and then coaching the winning team. Shelby was an unwavering force with a brilliant mind and kind heart. She was warm and welcoming to every person she ever met and was never without a smile. She told the best stories and could make anyone laugh even on their darkest day.
Cody joined Central City Fire Department as a Junior Firefighter. He attended Warren Tech and took fire science courses to begin his career in firefighting. Cody loved rodeo and competed with his high school rodeo team riding bareback, was an avid hunter, loved horseback riding, bowling, attending Colorado Mammoth Lacrosse games, and Country Jam. Cody was kind, giving, trustworthy, strong, steady, resilient, and a teacher to all who needed it whether it was fixing a car, fire stuff, or backing up a horse trailer. One of the best qualities Cody had was the patience of a Saint.
Cody and Shelby's love story began at the Gilpin County Fairgrounds. They met while at a bon fire, eating hot dogs and marshmallows. Over the course of a few years, their relationship bloomed and it was apparent that each found their soul mate.
In 2016, Shelby joined the fire department "to spend more time with Cody" and soon learned that being a volunteer firefighter "was the best decision she ever made."
Cody and Shelby were married in 2017. They both knew the hunt was over. They loved each other fiercely and lived every day to the absolute fullest. They were the perfect match and made each other stronger and more grounded. Cody and Shelby challenged each other and made a dynamic team. They loved each other deeply and spread that love to everyone else around them. The world was a brighter place with them lighting the way; they set the world on fire.
In August 2019, Cody's dream finally came true when he was hired by Central City as the first full-time paid firefighter.
Cody and Shelby had just celebrated their 3rd wedding anniversary when they were tragically taken from the world way too soon.
The Cody and Shelby Allen Memorial Scholarship is being established in their honor. Gifts will support future firefighters on their educational journey.
