It's been just over a year since I've taken the reins as the Executive Director of the Crisis Center - and what a year it has been! Through the dedication and hard work of our staff team, we are on track to serve approximately 400 adults and children impacted by domestic violence again this year.
This past year has been transformative for the Crisis Center:
- We, along with many other agencies across the country, have navigated funding reductions from our largest federal funder, the Victims of Crime Act – also known as VOCA. I am proud to say, while the Crisis Center did see a reduction in funding, we have maintained our current staffing patterns and there have been no negative impacts to our programs and services.
- Earlier this year, the Crisis Center was an active participant in the process for the Douglas County Domestic Violence Needs Assessment. Outcomes from this assessment, along with direct client feedback and input, have helped inform our work going forward. This includes selling our building to Douglas County Government, continuing to provide longer-term emergency shelter through our hotel partnerships, enhanced legal advocacy services and continued therapy and community-based advocacy services both in-person and via tele-services.
All of our programs and services will continue to remain free of charge, as we never want cost to be a barrier for those seeking safety and healing.
The shift in location will position the Crisis Center to meet the evolving needs of our community and advance our mission in more dynamic ways. We are committed to fostering innovation, expanding our reach, and deepening our impact to best serve those in need.
As we look ahead, we are eager to build upon our strong foundation and celebrating the Crisis Center’s 40th anniversary next year!
I am incredibly grateful for your unwavering support. Your generosity and commitment enable us to continue our vital work and bring hope to those we serve. Together, we are making a difference in the lives of those who need it most. Thank you for being a part of our journey. I am confident that, with your continued support, we will achieve even greater impact in the coming year.
Thank you and happy holidays!
