A thriving community starts with connection. By informing minds, engaging hearts and building bonds, we empower the Roaring Fork Valley to soar higher. With your support, we can ensure that our community has the high-caliber, independent journalism it deserves — not just to survive, but to thrive.
The Aspen Daily News Journalism Fund is not about sustaining the status quo; it’s about propelling us forward into a vibrant new chapter. In an ever-changing world, the role of a trusted local newspaper is more critical than ever. Your contributions allow us to build upon our tradition of fearless, accountability-driven daily reporting while investing in the in-depth storytelling that helps our community make sense of its most pressing challenges.
We’re dedicated to ensuring that the Roaring Fork Valley remains informed, engaged and connected. That means equipping our journalists with the professional development opportunities they need to deliver the best reporting possible. It means expanding our newsroom's capacity with a robust investigative and freelance budget. It also means fostering the next generation of journalists through paid internships, so the future of local journalism is as strong as its present.
Already, we’ve made strides in accessibility and inclusivity, upgrading our website to feature translation into more than a dozen languages and text-to-audio capabilities. We’ve hosted free, community forums like our recent airport forum at the Wheeler Opera House Lobby, giving our audience direct access to decision-makers and essential civic conversations.
And we’ve strengthened critical partnerships: as a long-time publishing partner of Aspen Journalism's and with a new broad, strategic partnership with Aspen Public Radio (sharing not only news content but even human resources!). And our founding support of Sol del Valle has amplified voices and stories that matter most in the valley.
Today, we've committed a five-figure contribution to the shared social-justice desk with Aspen Journalism and Aspen Public Radio, and we remain avid friends of The Sopris Sun (check out its Nonprofit Giving Guide, published on our website) and are enthusiastic members of the Colorado West Spanish News Collaborative, a regional collaboration that emerged in the aftermath of the Sol del Valle launch.
"We are beyond grateful to Aspen Daily News for partnering with us to bring Sol del Valle to where it is today," Sopris Sun Editor Raleigh Burleigh wrote in an October column. "Their investment in this vision and continued commitment to news equity signal a business rooted in ideals."
The Journalism Fund is about asking, “What’s next? What’s better?” Together, we can expand our offerings with more community events, deeper investigative reporting and initiatives that ensure every resident — regardless of language, ability or background — can access the news that shapes their lives.
Your support means investing in a stronger, more connected Roaring Fork Valley. Join us in shaping the next chapter of our shared story. Thank you!
