In case I have not shared this, at the age of 40 when my kids were 10 and 12, I had a wake-up call that illuminated my complete gratitude for my life. During the busiest time of my life, at height of my career, serving in leadership roles for my firm and professional organizations and enjoying my family, I found a lump under my arm. That lump turned out to be synovial sarcoma, an aggressive malignancy with an unknown prognosis.
Fortunately, I was diagnosed at the right time and right place, receiving care from Dr. Ross Wilkins, one of the world’s leading experts in this specialty. Because of Ross and my team of Doctors, I was able to take all steps needed to save my life. This is why, years later, I want to give back to The Limb Preservation Foundation (LPF), founded by Dr. Wilkins, to provide Hope, Help and Possibilities to limb patients through its many programs.
I now serve as an Executive Board member for LPF and recognize how fortunate I was during my health challenges. I had a supportive family, health insurance and resources. Their support helped me endure the physical and emotional challenges of surgeries, rounds of chemotherapy, radiation and rehabilitation.
Not everyone is so lucky. Many patients served by LPF do not have good insurance. They are unable to work, to keep up with essential bills including mortgages, heat, child support and much more. Helping patients catch up on bills and cover these expenses is one of the most important things LPF does. LPF is the only U.S. nonprofit that fills these important needs.
This year during the holiday season, I am asking for your help by supporting this cause that is dear to my heart. I can attest to the fact that your support will make a profound difference and will be used for limb patients and their families as they face some of their biggest challenges. Along with the patient assistance program I described, we offer peer support, education and research. Any donation will truly make a difference in relieving stress while the patient is facing so many challenges.
With your support, my goal is to raise $5000. Thank you for considering this note and wishing you and your family a happy and healthy holiday season.
