Candace S. Garrod was a dedicated Professor of Computer Science and Computer Technology at Red Rocks Community College for over 35 years.

She was born in Chicago, Illinois, but spent the majority of her life in Aurora, Denver, and Golden Colorado. She attended college at Colorado State University, where she obtained her Master's Degree.

Her work experience started at United Airlines in Reservations, but she transferred shortly after to the United Airlines Computer Center, where she became an accomplished computer programmer. In this position she was a trailblazer, being one of the few women with some one hundred men. She later transferred to the United Flight Training Center, where she was involved in teaching and course development. At that time, she realized that teaching was her life's calling.

Candance then became an adjunct instructor at Red Rocks Community College, and eventually became a full-time professor. Among her many accomplishments at RRCC, she was one of the co-recipients of the first Endowed Teaching Chair Awards. She was also the Colorado State Discipline Chair for the Computer Discipline for more than twenty years. In addition, she was the State Faculty Advisory Council Representative for RRCC, and she later chaired the Council.

However, her greatest accomplishment was her four year BAS Degree at a two-year college. She developed and helped implement a Secure Software Development Bachelor Degree for Red Rocks Community College.

In January of 2020, she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. In spite of her weekly, and sometimes daily treatments, she was determined to graduate her students in her new degree. With the COVID pandemic lock down, she was able to continue teaching online, until her final Fall Semester in 2021.

In January 2022, Candace passed away in Kona, Hawaii, her favorite place, surrounded by her family. She will be sadly missed by family, friends, colleagues, and countless students that she mentored over the last almost four decades.

To continue her legacy, a scholarship has been established to support enrollments in Computer Technology. We are grateful for your contribution to this scholarship.
