A person’s ability to decide if and when to start a family is directly tied to their overall health and well-being. We are working to ensure that everyone in Colorado who wants contraception can access a method of their choice.
Choose When is a program of Caring for Colorado working to make all contraception methods within financial reach of people throughout our state. By providing grants to safety-net clinics in Colorado, we can off-set the cost of contraceptives for uninsured and underinsured individuals.
Contraception, especially long-acting methods, can cost more than $1,000. For those who are uninsured or underinsured, this cost presents a very large, often insurmountable, financial barrier.
“I am so happy that my clinic told me Choose When would pay for my IUD. I wanted one but I don’t have insurance. I didn’t know how expensive they are, and I couldn’t pay for it myself. Thank you, Choose When.”
Choose When is powered by everyday Coloradans looking to make a difference. By supporting access to contraception, you are removing financial barriers so people can realize their future goals.
“As a clinic director, I’m so grateful for the services that Choose When provides in Rio Blanco. I had a client the other day that was uninsured and terrified. She was so thankful to have the support of Choose When in this uncertain time. Having an IUD of her choice and knowing that she wouldn’t be getting pregnant was one less thing she had to worry about.”
Expanding Access to 33 Counties in Colorado
Choose When was a regional program that began in Steamboat Springs in 2016 and grew to serve five counties in Northwest Colorado. It was transferred to Caring for Colorado in October 2023 to scale the program into a statewide solution. Caring for Colorado adopted the Choose When model of individual and foundation fundraising to offset the costs of contraception for people with financial barriers to care. Through our first Choose When funding opportunity in 2024, Caring for Colorado awarded 24 grants totaling $600,000 to safety net health clinics serving people in 38 counties throughout the state.
