On November 19, 2022, five people lost their lives during a mass shooting at the Club Q Nightclub in Colorado Springs. After the initial grief and outrage at this senseless, bias-motivated crime, life gradually returned to normal for most of us.
For families who lost loved ones, however, life will never be the same. Whether a mother, son, or second cousin, they continue to grapple with the ripple effects of this tragedy every day. This is especially true now, as the one-year mark approaches.
Although scattered across the country, many family members of the five victims have expressed a desire to make the journey Colorado Springs, where they can come together in community as they grieve, remember, and honor their loved ones.
Supporting the One-Year Remembrance
Traveling to Colorado for the one-year remembrance holds great significance for these families. While here, they will be able to attend a Club Q memorial cleanup and vigil, share meals and experiences, and explore potential locations for a permanent public memorial dedicated to the victims. Giving both immediate and extended family the opportunity to come together in a way they haven’t before offers unique therapeutic value.
Being physically present in the place where their loved ones were taken from them offers a safe environment to express grief and anger, rekindle cherished memories, and find connection that cannot be replicated elsewhere. For many, this opportunity is a crucial step in navigating through their loss and toward the next phase of their journey.
Helping to Alleviate the Burden
Thanks to generous donations previously received, some of the logistical and financial barriers of traveling to the remembrance have been removed. Our goal now is to ensure that families have opportunities to connect in meaningful ways. Donated funds will support meals, sign language interpreters and other accessibility accommodations, a public vigil and memorial cleanup, and activities to explore and find relief in the beauty of this area.
Your Contribution Directly Supports Healing
In the year since the tragedy, Community Health Partnership has been working with partners and the community to center the needs of survivors and victims' families in a variety of ways. Through this experience, we have seen firsthand that grief and healing take many forms. Contributing to this cause is not only about logistics. It’s about facilitating a transformative and cathartic experience for these grieving families. Your support will also allow them to actively participate in shaping the legacy of their loved ones, ensuring that their memories endure for generations to come.
