About the Initiative

The CNA Worker Cooperative is a worker cooperative incubator designed to address the challenges faced by women of color, immigrants, refugees, and new Americans in the healthcare industry. By offering comprehensive training and support, this initiative equips CNAs with the skills to establish cooperatives that provide home health care, elder care, and caregiving services.

This project promotes financial independence, job security, and community integration through shared ownership and democratic governance.

Why This Program Matters

CNAs from underrepresented communities face barriers such as underemployment, discrimination, and limited access to resources. This program addresses these challenges by fostering cooperative ownership and economic empowerment.

Key Reasons to Support This Initiative:

  • Promote Economic Independence: Equip CNAs with the tools to own and manage businesses, ensuring long-term financial stability.

  • Reduce Economic Disparities: Address the challenges of underemployment and discrimination in the healthcare industry.

  • Strengthen Communities: Empower CNAs to contribute to their communities through local cooperative businesses.

  • Enhance Workforce Diversity: Build a more inclusive and representative healthcare sector.

Program Highlights

Our initiative combines comprehensive training and cooperative governance to empower CNAs to succeed as business owners. Key features include:

  • Tailored Training Programs: Focused on cooperative governance, business planning, financial literacy, and healthcare regulations to prepare participants for cooperative ownership.

  • Mentorship and Peer Support: Providing guidance from experienced professionals to ease the transition into cooperative leadership.

  • Legal and Administrative Support: Assistance with licensing, regulatory compliance, and business management.

  • Community Partnerships: Collaboration with local health organizations, nonprofits, and government agencies to expand resources and opportunities for cooperative members.
