Grand County Wildfire Emergency Fund: Finding Hope Among Adversity
One of the most redeeming qualities of Grand County, Colorado, is its ability to come together during adversity. Now more than ever, Grand County needs your support.
In 2020 the Grand Foundation established the Grand County Wildfire Emergency Fund to support the needs of Grand County residents who have been evacuated, displaced, or have lost their homes during the Grand County wildfires. 100% of donations will be distributed to those in need.
The East Troublesome Fire devastated Grand County destroying 20% of the county's landscape and 5% of the total housing inventory. There was 366 Homes destroyed and an additional 189 structures (barns, sheds, etc.). Of the homes, 132 were primary residences and approximately 25% were uninsured, of those it is assumed that 32 were mobile homes from a mobile home park at Highland Marina. They are also calculating over $190 Million in damages. But we have noticed that these numbers have been increasing every time we have calls. The fire burned just shy of 193,812 acres and as of 11/30/20
100% contained.
The foundation raised over $4 Million, please see the fund balance and distributions below. While we know this is going to be a marathon and not sprint in rebuilding, we know that remaining funds will not last for years to come and mitigation and recovery efforts will still need to be funded. As of September 30, 2022, $3,141,450 has been distributed to over 140 homeowners, renters, nonprofits, debris removal, mitigation and and long term recovery efforts. We continue to work with fire departments, Wildfire Council and those who have not started the rebuilding process as of yet. We look to raise more funds for the future mitigation and recovery work.
Please consider donating to the Grand County Wildfire Emergency Fund.
