Gateway to College partners with the study abroad organization, Where There Be Dragons (WTBD). Each summer, WTBD supports one GTC student to travel on one of their 4-6 week summer programs. While WTBD helps fund and subsidize the program cost for the Dragon's Scholar, we work to make sure this trip is not cost prohibitive for the selected student and try to cover the airfare, gear and partial program costs.
Thus far, Gateway has seen students travel to Peru, Morocco and Senegal (x2). This is an invaluable experience for students, not only impacting their lifetimes but also impacting the Gateway community upon their return.
2025 Dragon's Scholar, Amiya Segovia
Our 2025 Dragon's Scholar is Adams 12 student, Amiya Segovia. Amiya has transitioned between schools a couple of times, from Thornton to home schooling to GOAL Academy to fortunately finding home here at Gateway! Amiya has been with us for over a year and become a leader both by academic example and by her magnanimous nature of supporting the Gateway community. Amiya averages 98% attendance each semester and has a 3.75 college GPA!
Beyond demonstrating superb academic and interpersonal skills here on campus, Amiya works 20 hours a week, does competitive equestrian vaulting, and is active with her local church. Amiya is excited to challenge herself and push her boundaries even more through digesting new viewpoints, making new connections and becoming a true citizen of the world!
We’ll be fundraising to support Amiya’s airfare, gear and extra costs. Please consider donating to help this amazing cause!
As well, please send deep gratitude to the amazing, Boulder based, Where There Be Dragon's Dragon's organization. Amiya will be our 5th Gateway Dragon’s Scholar! These opportunities are supported by Dragons and Dragons’ funders, making these trips accessible to students that might not otherwise venture down these paths.
