Hotline Heroes: A Call for Justice!

Every young person deserves a chance to succeed, but for Colorado’s justice-engaged students, navigating the path to education and opportunity can feel impossible. Each year, around 22,000 young Coloradans find themselves entangled in the justice system, facing an uphill battle to complete their education. Without the right support, only about 20% of these youth earn a high school diploma.

In response to this challenge, Generation Schools Network (GSN) is launching the Justice-Engaged Student Hotline in early 2025, a lifeline created through the groundbreaking Justice-Engaged Student Bill of Rights (HB 24-1216). This hotline will be the first statewide initiative of its kind, designed to eliminate educational barriers for justice-engaged youth by providing vital information, resources, and support.

Why a Hotline?

Across Colorado, families, educators, and community leaders voiced a common struggle: finding accessible, reliable support for justice-involved students. Many youth fall through the cracks, hindered by a complex web of justice and education systems that often feel impossible to navigate. The hotline will offer a free, confidential resource for these youth, their families, and the professionals supporting them. Trained "Hotline Heroes" will be on hand to answer questions, connect callers to local services, and provide guidance to ensure that every student has the tools they need to succeed.
