Katie's Fundraiser for the Don't Look Back Center

The Don't Look Back Center engages in co-creative community work with marginalized Women & Transwomen to build new pathways to the higher quality of life they seek to develop for themselves.

The amazing team and mentors are committed to empowering diverse populations with life skills to rebuild their life from the grip of addiction, trauma, PTSD, and domestic violence.   

On a personal note, we had the pleasure of hosting a young trans man as an exchange student for 8 months this past year, from whom I was able to learn a great deal. He is from the Netherlands where he has received gender affirming health care for years to help with his transition. So many young trans people in the U.S. do not have the same kind of support; youth and adults continue to experience discrimination and bullying, and I expect that to only increase given the anti-trans rhetoric we heard during the past election. Transgender people are over four times more likely than cisgender people to experience violent victimization, including rape, sexual assault, and aggravated or simple assault (according to a study by the Williams Institute at UCLA School of Law). As a member of the LGBTQ+ community myself, I am well aware of the homophobic and transphobic attitudes that are circulating around in our schools, our housing communities, the media, healthcare facilities and more.
