Jane’s Place 2024 Update
Jane's Place is a legacy project honoring the vision of the late Jane Whitmer. Jane’s Place is moving forward to be an innovative adaptive housing project near the heart of downtown Salida on the corner of 3rd Street and Highway 291. Jane’s Place will provide 17 rental housing units, a nonprofit incubator meeting space, and a social enterprise coffee shop. Housing units will serve the needs of our diverse and growing seasonal workforce, households in transition or in emergency need, AmeriCorps volunteers, new recruits to our workforce, and families who are striving to exit homelessness.
This project would not be possible without our partners and the generosity of our local community. The construction cost for Jane’s Place is about $5.2 million. With the generosity of the local community providing a significant match, Chaffee Housing Authority was able to secure grants and loans to finance the entire construction project. Thank you!
Activating Services At Jane’s Place
Now that we have secured the resources necessary to construct Jane's Place, the fundraising focus shifts to supporting the individuals and organizations who will be served by Jane's Place. The CHA received a grant to pay for a part-time on-site case manager beginning in 2025 through June of 2026. This new hire will be responsible for coordinating services for residents of Jane’s Place.
Your donation to ChaffeeGIVES this year will provide the resources necessary to provide effective programming and services for the residents of Jane's Place including:
1. Resources to reimburse partner organizations who can offer support services to tenants.
2. An emergency fund to cover the first month's rent for families and individuals who need short term shelter.
3. Support for CHA to cover the ongoing operational costs for Jane's Place in perpetuity.
Construction Timeline
Construction is anticipated to begin in December 2024. The community’s approval of ballot measure 6B lifted the TABOR revenue limitation that had delayed the project.
Occupancy Timeline
The first residents of Jane’s Place are anticipated to move in by early 2026.
Program Services Timeline
While residents cannot move into Jane’s Place until construction is complete, programming work will begin in early 2025 with staff beginning to coordinate with service providers and employers to identify potential tenants, develop program services, and ensure the programming is ready to be implemented the day residents move in.
