Declutter and Elevate: Support Weehawken’s Costume Storage Solution in Montrose!

At Weehawken Creative Arts, we’re committed to accessibility and sustainability, and one way we achieve this is by owning and maintaining thousands of costumes rather than selling them to our students. Each costume in our inventory is re-used up to eight times, with temporary alterations to fit new dancers. This approach ensures affordability for families while reducing waste, but it also presents logistical challenges—especially in Montrose.

Currently, over 750 costumes are occupying the hallway leading to our classrooms at the Field House. By week 3 of any semester, costumes come out of storage for alterations and preparation for the upcoming production, making the hallway a busy and cluttered space. With over 80 lead dancers using the studio during busy weekend rehearsals, this creates safety concerns and disrupts the flow of our creative environment.

We’ve partnered with the Montrose Rec District to create a practical and exciting solution:

• A 40-foot storage container, placed onsite, will house our costumes, clearing the hallway and improving safety and accessibility. This container will cost $10,000 and will belong to Weehawken, ensuring it follows us wherever our classroom may move in the future.
• To beautify the space, we will commission a mural by young artists this summer for the container’s exterior, showcasing our community’s creativity. This project will cost an additional $5,000.

Our total fundraising goal is $15,000. This investment will:

• Clear the hallway, enhancing safety and ease of movement for dancers and families.
• Streamline costume storage and preparation for our productions.
• Provide a lasting, mobile solution for our growing costume inventory.
• Inspire the community with a vibrant mural celebrating the arts.
