Hello Friends and Family! Thank you for taking the time to consider supporting Kempe. They are truly near and dear to our heart. Most of you probably know our family did foster care for children for 5 years. We saw a lot of child abuse and neglect during those years. One child in specific that we fostered went through unimaginable physical abuse after he left our home. A few short months after he left, he was killed by the hands of his kinship family. His death changed our family forever.
For years we advocated for justice. Thankfully, the criminal side was taken care of. Through that criminal process and watching the full trial we saw that many people and processes that should have saved him from the abuse, failed him.
Our pain, grief, and despair lead us to find Kempe Foundation and Kempe Center. They are experts in child abuse, neglect and maltreatment. They provide education, advocacy, clinical work and community support relate to child abuse and neglect. They do amazing work to help provide opportunities for all children to live safe and healthy lives.
I (Beth) have spent a lot of time with the Kempe Foundation and Kempe Center staff over the years. Without going into all the details, I am thoroughly impressed by them. I am grateful for them. I see them meeting a huge need in our state & region. They are top tier experts working daily for the needs of children. After the excruciating pain we have walked through losing a foster son to abuse and witnessing a broken system, they are the helpers our world needs.
Alex and I have given financially to them annually since our foster son was killed. This year I decided to join the Kempe Foundation board of directors because I believe in their work so much.
Please join Alex and I in supporting the much needed work Kempe Foundation and Kempe Center is doing. For Alex and I, it is a way we honor the life of the child we loved and lost. It is also a way to help protect the next child.
Any amount of financial support you could give to Kempe would be a great way to support our next generation and most vulnerable.
With Love & Gratitude, Beth and Alex
Information about Kempe:
The Kempe Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect. We work to ensure all children have the opportunity to develop and grow in a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment by supporting experts in the field, advocating for children, and engaging with communities. Through partnerships with The Kempe Center, human service agencies, other child-serving nonprofits and funders, we make a difference in the lives of children, families, and communities.
How does Kempe prevent child abuse?
1. Programs. By supporting experts in the field, Kempe runs evidence-based programs that help the most vulnerable. Programs range from mental health in public schools, healthcare for foster children, and mentorships for foster children.
2. Advocacy. Kempe’s policy team works to pass child-focused policies to improve the lives of children in Colorado and beyond. Recent bills that have been supported by Kempe and passed in the Colorado state legislature cover subjects such as mental health of students, maintaining families during child welfare involvement, and supporting foster youth as they age out of the welfare system.
3. Community building. Kempe strives to work alongside other organizations who share missions to end child abuse and protect families. This is accomplished through connecting resources and collaborating on initiatives.
Join me in supporting the Kempe Foundation to create a safer, healthier, and more nurturing environment for children and families. Your support is greatly appreciated!
