The Newcomers Fund supports migrants who have arrived in Colorado from the southern U.S. border. Launched in December 2022, the Fund distributes grants to local nonprofits that are providing one-to-one, direct support for new arrivals.
The federal government recently offered Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and work authorization (EAD) to many arriving populations, which will enable those who are eligible to find employment and begin building their lives. There are an estimated, 5,500 people in Colorado who could apply for TPS and work permits (those who arrived before July 31, 2023, and who have not since moved on to other cities).
There is an immediate need to connect those who are eligible for work authorization with those opportunities, and the process to get people enrolled and associated application fees could be as high as $2.5 million. Legal clinics where applicants will receive free assistance are launching in early 2024. Additional fundraising dollars allows us to scale the clinics to serve even more people.
Thank you for considering a gift to the Newcomers Fund. Your support makes a real and positive difference to those who are rebuilding their lives in a new place. Every dollar received by the Fund is deployed quickly and strategically to nonprofits in our local community.
To direct your gift to the legal clinics only, please select "Newcomers Fund Workforce Clinics" from the drop down menu.
