Patriot Players

George Washington's Patriot Players is the extra-curricular theatre program for GWHS. Unlike many schools, GW produces two mainstage productions every year, a musical and a play. These can be powerful and thought-provoking as well as entertaining. Titles have included The Laramie Project, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Dracula, and The Children's Hour. The current year productions are She Kills Monsters and The Addams Family. 

Professionals from the local theatre community are brought in to mentor the students in set design, costuming, sound, and acting. In addition to their on-stage work, members of Thespian Troupe 1621 have scored the highest marks at the international conference in categories of set design, duo acting, monologue, and costuming. At our last state Thespian conference, 23 students represented the Patriot Players in all levels of competition for both performance and technical work. Another 20 were able to learn from working professionals in workshops of every sort. Many of our students have been awarded scholarships to continue their theatre education at the college level and a number have gone on to work professionally.
