The mission of Mobile Laundry (a program of the non-profit Homeward Alliance) is to break down barriers to success for low-income families, and for adults experiencing homelessness in Larimer County, through free, mobile laundry services. Our Mobile Laundry truck is equipped with six sets of washers and dryers. We identify regular, predictable locations in Loveland and Fort Collins for program participants to drop off their dirty clothes and then pick them up 90 minutes later (or at the end of the day), clean, dry and folded!
Unfortunately, on January 23rd, 2024, the Mobile Laundry truck was hit by another vehicle on their way to a laundry site, through no fault of the Mobile Laundry driver. The collision caused significant damage, and every laundry machine was broken and the truck is not operational.
While the truck may be out of commission, we have not stopped providing laundry services to those in need! Our amazing volunteers continue to wash, dry and fold laundry for the individuals and families we serve. They are collecting laundry at our regular sites and bringing them to a nearby laundromat. Currently we are washing upwards of 45 loads a day, three times a week, at a cost of $130 each day.
All proceeds from the Word of Thanks campaign will go towards providing laundry services to those in need.
Why Mobile Laundry?
Larimer County (Poudre, Thompson and Estes) School Districts report, on average, 2,175 students experience homelessness each year. Families who lack a fixed, regular place to live struggle to meet their basic needs-including access to laundry. Larimer County school personnel report that students are negatively impacted by the lack of clean clothing, including school absences, social stigma and self-esteem issues.
The Loveland community lacks sufficient laundry services for people experiencing homelessness and not having access to clean clothes is a proven barrier to success. Primary hygiene needs such as laundry are often overlooked but essential for anyone trying to secure employment, compete for affordable housing and regain their self-sufficiency.
Mobile Laundry is thankful to our dedicated supporters and volunteers who have helped with our mission over the years, and we are grateful to be featured on "Word of Thanks" during Next with Kyle Clark on 9News!
