Places to Age

Do you know that 27% of the population of Chaffee County are currently over 65 years old? That is almost double the state average of 15% 65+.  While we are an active, relatively healthy group, we all want to continue to age with dignity and ease. Let's step up as a community to meet this growing need. Places to Age is a volunteer based non profit committed to bringing Assisted Living and Memory Care facilities to our county. Since that level of care is not available here, one must leave the county often causing difficult disruption to the individual, family members, and friends. And our county loses the important contributions these older adults have made - and could continue to make - to our community. 

Phase One is an Assisted Living and Memory Care facility that is projected to need a staff of 40 skilled people. We are partnering with Chaffee Housing Authority and Chaffee Housing Trust to plan for affordable housing for these staff members as well as working with Colorado Mountain College to expand training for careers in care giving and CNA (certified nursing assistants). Under the umbrella of Chaffee Community Foundation, we have 501 C 3 status to offer charitable tax deductions to donors and access to the Foundation's wide expertise in developing such a large project. 

Currently we have donations of land for these facilities and now need to raise funds to prepare initial development design and engineering plans for infrastructure, traffic patterns, and building envelopes to make the site ready for builders and operators.
