Kathi's Kempe Foundation Fundraiser

I have been connected with the Kempe Foundation since 2001 when I was privileged to come to Colorado for Child Abuse Pediatrics Fellowship Training at the University of Colorado/Kempe Center/Children’s Hospital Colorado and am grateful that my relationship has only grown since then! I have been truly privileged to serve as the Executive Director of the Kempe Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect since February 2019, during which time I have worked especially closely with the Kempe Foundation, serving on the Board of Directors. The tireless efforts of the Foundation supporting experts like those at the Center, engaging with communities, and advocating for children make them a critical partner for the work that I do.

I have committed my professional life to serving and caring for our most vulnerable children and families. I believe that our children are our future and they do best in safe, stable and nurturing families and communities. I believe that it is through the work of organizations such as the Kempe Foundation that we can have the best of home creating the world that we want to see, one in which all children and families have what they need to thrive. 

Having been a clinician in this field for over 20 years, I can bring to mind countless stories of children that have experienced harm at the hands of someone that was supposed to care for them. But the longer that I do this work, the clearer it is to me that the greatest hope we can give our children is to ensure that those that care for them and the communities in which they live are best supported and positioned to meet their needs.  

A donation to the Kempe Foundation would mean a lot to me as a way of supporting the critical efforts of the Kempe Foundation as we work together toward the Center’s vision of a world without abuse and neglect.
