Salida Salvation Army Service Extension Unit

Our Salvation Army Salida Service Extension Unit helps the residents of Chafee County with assistance with rent to prevent eviction, utilities so they can stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer, medical expenses, and we provide seasonal food baskets every year. Since October 2019, we have helped 30 families with over $24,000 spent to provide rental assistance, utility bill relief, emergency hotel lodgings, and medical expenses relief on a case-by-case basis. For example, we helped a disabled veteran cover the costs of a handicap-accessible bathroom. The families who come to us are experiencing a horrible situation and due to circumstances beyond their control they will not have enough funds to pay for rent and food, so they have to make a choice and we want to be there so they don't have to make this decision. We also provide $2,850 worth of food baskets to families every winter through partnerships with local organizations such as the American Red Cross Salida chapter. Please help us help our local residents, especially this Holiday season with COVID-19 still a public health crisis.
