My Fundraiser for ACLU Colorado

I interviewed for a role at the ACLU-CO two and half years ago, and in my final round, I pulled out a pen to take notes, and to my delight, it was an ACLU pen I had for years before I ever tried to work here. I grew up learning about the ACLU-Co defending water rights in the SLV, fighting for equity in education funding, and championing the rights of all. 

At a time when our democracy, our constitution, and our rights are under an immediate threat, I am honored to be here. I am lucky to be in my position, and I am ready for the fight. 

Colorado is uniquely situated in our modern political era to protect rights in Colorado and to help hold the line nationally. 

Since 2016, the ACLU-Co and our partners have been crafting policy and legal strategy to protect against national erosions of civil rights, and we can now put them to the test. We have stronger abortion access laws, better anti-discrimination, and more protective immigration laws than most other states, but in addition, we have data privacy protections championed by the my team at the ACLU-Co that will also protect those coming from hostile states. Geographically, Colorado is a civil rights island, and we must protect these laws for Coloradans AND our surrounding states. 

In addition to our highly protective state laws and constitution, we are positioned to help take on the growing national tyranny and throw sand in the gears of project 2025. 

Our Governor has already joined a coalition of governors, and our AG sued the first Trump administration 17 times in the short overlap of their terms. The ACLU-Co will work with national, our partners, and our electeds to defend moving backwards as a country, and even continue to advance our rights. We are mixed politically in this state, we are not coastal, and we are still aligned broadly on the importance of justice and liberty for all. We, the people of Colorado, will be critical as we work alongside ACLU's 52 other affiliates to uphold a Freedom Firewall over the next several years.
