Special Olympics of Steamboat and Yampa Valley, SOSY, athletes continue to compete on the slopes and ball fields in honor of our friends and teammates, Sue White and Amy Pascetti. Sue and Amy exemplified team spirit, competitiveness, and sportsmanship, qualities that inspire our whole team to both emulate and to strive for the gold!
SOSY offers training and competitive opportunities to athletes with intellectual disabilities, ages 8 through adult. Currently, we offer softball, bocce, and snowshoeing, as well as skiing and snowboarding (in cooperation with STARS) to our Yampa Valley Special Olympics athletes. All expenses involved in participation in a sport/competition, i.e. uniforms, travel, lodging, meals, are expenses borne by the athletes alone with no subsidies from any organization. SOSY’s main focus is to raise funds to offset these expenses for our athletes, as well as to foster team spirit through logo gear and uniforms and season-end celebrations.
Athletic endeavors provide the same feelings of self-worth and success to athletes with intellectual disabilities as to any other athlete; and often helps to break down prejudice and ignorance surrounding those disabilities. Your donation to our team will subsidize expenses associated with competing, so our Special Olympians can thoroughly experience the thrill of competition. Help them find their gold!
