Tibetan Literacy Project 2024

Without a basic education and the ability to speak Chinese, options in life are limited for Tibetan children. Since 2010, The Tibetan Literacy Project has been working to change that by providing quality education to children from primary school through college. We work alongside trusted village elders to support children who show a passion for learning and a desire to give back to their communities. Currently, we are supporting 24 children and young adults who are thriving in bilingual schools—ranging from elementary school to college. These students are on the path to becoming teachers, healthcare workers, scientists, and community leaders who will return to their villages, equipped with the knowledge and confidence to make a lasting impact.

Dolma, currently in her master’s program, is preparing for a government exam and dreams of starting her own business. Her ambition inspires her peers to pursue their own dreams. Kelsang’s daughter, identified for her athletic talent, is now training at a specialized school with the potential to compete at an Olympic level. Her journey is a beacon of hope for her family and community. Tsering, recently accepted into an outstanding school, will soon choose her major. With aspirations to serve in military or police work, she is eager to use her education to protect and serve her community. Jigme, despite facing job rejections due to his ethnicity, remains resilient in his pursuit of a career and is considering launching his own business to create opportunities for himself and others.

Thanks to your generous donations, we have been able to support 24 students at various educational stages—5 are in college, and 3 more are preparing to join next year! Many of these students aspire to start their own businesses, using the skills they’ve gained to uplift their communities. These success stories are just the beginning.
