Miss Colorado USA Run for Refugees

Hello everyone! My name is Jessi Kalambayi and I hold the title of Miss Colorado USA 2024. I am a first-generation Congolese American, humanitarian, model and advocate for refugee empowerment. As Miss Colorado USA 2024, I am  passionate about using my platform to support refugee and migrant communities. 

As master’s candidate for an international studies degree from DU and my work as a program manager for the "Ready for American Hospitality" program at the University of Denver, I help newcomers build new lives with dignity and hope. Through the Run for Refugees initiative, I aim to raise awareness and funds to support displaced families and celebrate the resilience of those seeking safety and opportunity.

The African Community Center of Denver (ACC) is a refugee resettlement agency with a mission to help refugees and immigrants rebuild safe, sustainable lives in Denver. They welcome families fleeing persecution from all over the world, from countries such as Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ukraine,  and others. 

In FY2024, ACC welcomed over 1,355 refugees & immigrants- the highest number they’ve ever welcomed during a twelve month period. They need support from the community to continue providing services to the increasing number of newcomers arriving in the U.S.

 This May, supporters, volunteers, and refugee community members will come together to Run for Refugees at the Colfax Marathon races on May 17th & 18th. In addition to raising awareness for ACC, participants have the opportunity to set a fundraising goal to reach ahead of race day.
